Inclusion WORKS! Damari goes to a typical Kindergarten BECAUSE of ALC’s dedication.
“I believe without The Adaptive Learning Center’s intervention those students would not have been in a regular education classroom and be successful.” ~ Michele Brown, Teacher, Our House
Damari had very aggressive behaviors and Mr. Scott worked tirelessly with us to help him apply non-violent strategies to solve problems with other students or teachers. His behavior issues were very extreme. Academic progress for him was minimal because Mr. Scott and I had to focus so much on his social emotional growth. Because of the assistance from ALC by March Damari’s aggressive behaviors were starting to decrease. He also started to be able to increase his academic skills as well (name writing, counting, identifying shapes, etc).
Our House’s Pre-K program received a grant from the State of Georgia to provide an additional six weeks in the summer to prepare Damari for Kindergarten. ALC graciously allowed Ms. Tina to work part-time to assist him. When he entered kindergarten he excelled. By the month of March (2016) his teachers administered a slew of assessment test that all of the students take in Kindergarten. Damari was reading on the 2nd grade level and was not having any discipline problems as well.
Darmari’s father was so proud and came back to our classroom to say thank you to the ALC Inclusion Specialists and me. I really don’t believe Damari would have the success he experienced in elementary school without that early intervention. I believe without ALC he probably would have been labeled with a learning disability and been in a special needs classroom. I will forever be grateful to The Adaptive Learning Center.
This season, we are hoping to expand the number of children experiencing homelessness who receive our special services by raising $40,000 in 40 days.
